Es geht immer um Übersetzungen. Von Bewegung zu Stille. Von Stille zu Bewegung. Aggregatzustände dessen, was letztlich dasselbe ist. Transformationen. Was können Gehen und Sehen zu einer fotografischen Praxis beitragen; wie lässt sich der unendliche Fluss der Bewegung kurzzeitig (oder dauerhaft) anhalten; wie lässt sich daraus ein Moment destillieren, der Spuren des Handlungsverlaufs zeigt oder andeutet, und wie lassen sich die eingefrorenen Bilder wieder verflüssigen, zurück in Handlung verwandeln? Ein Buch (ein Bildband) besitzt diese Fähigkeit; es verweist auf die vielen Ereignisse (ihre Menge), muss sie jedoch nicht alle abbilden, um ihre grosse Zahl zu demonstrieren. Wie sieht diese neue Ordnung aus, die die Bilder für uns anders organisiert und zusammenführt? Welcher Weg führte dorthin? INSTA NT. ÜBER DEN AUGENBLICK IN DER ARCHITEKTUR UND SEINE FOTOGRAFISCHE ANVERWANDLUNG spricht von dieser experimentellen Anordnung und diesem Ansatz. Anders ausgedrückt: die Rauminstallation soll Einblick in diesen Prozess des Innehaltens und Verweisens geben. Sie ist aber ebenso Hommage auf die Figur des Buchdesigners. Ein Gestalter, halb Dramaturg halb Demiurg.
INSTA NT. ON THE MOMENT IN ARCHITECTURE AND ITS PHOTOGRAPHIC TRANSLATION
It’s always about translations. From movement to stillness. From stillness to movement. States of matter that are, ultimately, one and the same. Transformations. What can walking and seeing contribute to a photographic practice; how can the infinite flow of movement be paused briefly (or permanently); how can a moment be distilled from it that shows or hints at traces of the course of action, and how can the frozen images be liquefied again, transformed back into action? A book (a photo book) possesses this ability; it refers to the many events (their multitude), yet need not depict them all to demonstrate their great number. What does this new order look like, one that organizes and brings the images together differently for us? What path led there? INSTA NT. ON THE MOMENT IN ARCHITECTURE AND ITS PHOTOGRAPHIC TRANSFORMATION addresses this experimental arrangement and approach. In other words, the spatial installation is intended to provide insight into this process of pausing and referencing. But it is also a tribute to the figure of the book designer—a creator, half dramaturg, half demiurge.
