Kunstraum SUPER Wien 2.10. – 15.10.2020
Ein Künstlerbuch kann durchaus mit dem Format einer Ausstellung korrespondieren, ist aber seinem Kern nach gänzlich anderen Gesetzlichkeiten (des Materials, der Montage, des Layouts, der Reproduktion, des Drucks; kurz: den Gesetzen des Mediums) unterworfen. Dem/der Leserin oder Betrachterin eine offene Szene anzubieten, auf der diese/dieser selbst zur mitgestaltenden Akteur:in und Kompliz:in wird, ist eine der Herausforderungen für den/die Künstler:in und Gestalter:in. Es ist im mehrfachen Sinne eine Art des Übersetzens (von Raum zu Raum, von Subjekt zu Subjekt, von Objekt zu Objekt, etc.).
„Zur Architektur des Buches. Vom Innen und vom Rand“ will also ebenso von den Mechanismen seiner Gestaltung sprechen wie von der Mechanik seines inneren Funktionierens. Die Installation im Kunstraum SUPER handelt vom Entwurf des Buches in seiner vorläufigen, noch nicht beschlossenen Form und bindet die/den Besucher:in in einen noch anhaltenden Prozess mit ein.
TO THE ARCHITECTURE OF THE BOOK. FROM THE INSIDE AND FROM THE EDGE
An artist’s book can certainly correspond to the format of an exhibition, but at its core it is subject to entirely different laws (of material, of montage, of layout, of reproduction, of printing; in short: the laws of the medium). Offering the reader or viewer an open scene in which he or she becomes a co-creating actor and accomplice is one of the challenges for the artist and designer. It is a kind of translation in several senses (from space to space, from subject to subject, from object to object, etc.).
„On the Architecture of the Book. From the inside and from the edge“ thus wants to speak as much of the mechanisms of its design as of the mechanics of its inner functioning. The installation in the Kunstraum SUPER is about the design of the book in its preliminary, not yet decided form and involves the visitor in a still ongoing process.
